:In a heartwarming act of compassion and quick thinking, local journalist Suhail Ahmad Dar saved the lives of thousands of fish stranded in a drying irrigation channel in Batengoo area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Due to an ongoing heatwave and drastic fall in water levels, the irrigation channel had almost completely dried up, leaving countless fish gasping for life in shallow, stagnant waters. Upon noticing the distressing scene, Suhail Ahmad immediately sprang into action.
He said, “I saw thousands of fish struggling for survival in the dry irrigation channel. Without waiting for anyone, I began carefully rescuing them with whatever resources were available and transported them to the nearby Jhelum River.”
His swift response and selfless act not only drew appreciation from locals but also served as a reminder of individual responsibility towards environmental and ecological preservation. Locals hailed his efforts, calling him a real-life hero who gave a second chance of life to the helpless aquatic beings.
