Mushroom Cultivation &Entrepreneurship training program concludes along with the commencement of new skill programs at JU

Jammu:University Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Centre (UESDC) organized valedictory function of Mushroom Cultivation and Entrepreneurship training program in Convention Hall of The Business School, University of Jammu while maintaining SOPs of COVID-19. This training was jointly organized by UESDC in collaboration with Department of Botany and The Business School, University of Jammu in 2020. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu laid emphasis on the need for skilling, upskilling, and reskilling of the youth of India. According to Prof. Dhar, these kinds of training will transform the young generation into job creators rather than job seekers in a true sense. Further according to him, the transition of the global economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic will also be tackled by imbibing novel skills in different sectors. On this occasion, Prof. Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs and Coordinator RUSA 2.0, University of Jammu deliberated on the need of generating self-employment and applauded the roles of skill-based courses in boosting entrepreneurship in J&K. Earlier, Prof. Alka Sharma, Convener, UESDC, JU welcomed the dignitaries and thanked the Heads and coordinators of various Departments and participants of the course. She also announced series of new skill courses to be offered under UESDC, among which prominent ones include Android Programming, Java Programming, Bamboo craft, Spoken English, and life skills. Prof. Veenu Kaul, Head, Department of Botany shared her views about the role of youth in building New India. She also emphasized that local issues and demands will be a driving factor for the young entrepreneurs of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir. A brief interaction session of the participants with the Vice-Chancellor and media personnel was conducted by Dr. Sikander PaL. The session highlighted the challenges faced by the course participants to implement their practical training into business ventures and their innovative ideas of entrepreneurship. Among participants, Harsha Sharma shared her views about mushroom cultivation and setting up a small business venture. For, Vinish Malik from Jammu, the course has offered optimal utilization of her fallow land to generate employment. Mohd. Issaq from Bani, offered the novel concept of mushroom-based products as his dream business venture, while for Ankush Khajuria, MSc in Biotechnology, nutritional values of mushrooms and their explorations in different functional foods will be a promising business venture.  Following the interaction, Prof. Dhar ensured participants that proper guidance and handholding will be provided to the budding entrepreneurs, so that they become job creators and create their own niche in New India. Prof. Dhar acknowledged the important roles of Prof. Geeta Sumbali, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Prof. Namrata Sharma, Dr. Skarma Nonzom and Dr. Sikander Pal of the Department of Botany, Prof. Sameer Gupta and Dr. Aubid H. Parrey from TBS in the smooth conduct of course. The event was attended by eminent professors of the University including Prof. Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, University of Jammu, Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Prof. Samridhi Arora, Prof. Varsha Mehta, Prof. Vinay Chauhan, Prof. Sanjay Sharma, Dr. N. Suresh Rao, Dr. Vijay Shehgal, and Dr. Shubhnandan S. Jamwal along with UESDC coordinators of various departments of the University. Proceedings of the event were conducted by Dr. Aubid H. Parrey, while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sikander PAL, member of UESDC.
