Srinagar:
Bandipora Police have arrested six individuals for spreading false and fabricated news about the police and security forces on various social media platforms following the encounter in Kulnar Bazipora Ajas on April 24.

In a statement issued to news agency JKNS, police said they received credible information from multiple sources about the circulation of fake narratives on social media. “In this connection, a criminal case has been registered against all social media account holders who circulated these false stories,” the statement said.

The police stated that the act posed a serious threat to national security and had the potential to disrupt law and order in the region. An FIR, No. 71/25, under Section 152 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 66(f) of the IT Act, was filed at Police Station Bandipora, and the investigation is ongoing.

The six individuals arrested in the case have been identified as Ajaz Ahmad Gojar Baniya, son of Zulf Deen Gojar Baniya, and Zafran Ahmad Gojar, son of Shah Zaman Gojar, both residents of Bazipora Ajas; Sartaj Ahmad Malik, son of Mohammad Subhan Malik of Malikpora Rakh-Hajin; Bilal Ahmad Hurra, son of Abdul Hamid Hurra of Gundjahahgir Hajin; Altaf Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Jabbar Wani of Baharabad Hajin; and Bilal Ahmad Parray, son of Abdul Majeed Parray of Khose Mohalla.

Police have appealed to social media users to act responsibly and refrain from spreading misinformation. “Stringent legal action, including prosecution under relevant laws, will be taken against those misusing digital platforms for unlawful purposes,” the statement added. (JKNS)
