Jammu :Aiming to conduct to Panchayat by election smoothly in Jammu and Kashmir, the administration headed by Lieutenant Governor G C Murumu has formulated strategy. Moreover, the centre is directly monitoring security situation in the Union Territory.
“Centre is more concerned about the smooth conduction of panchyat by polls in Jammu and Kashmir following recent militant attack in Jammu region,” an official said.
“National security advisor Ajit Doval is in direct contact with security forces to make more stringent security plans,” he added. He informed that the high level meeting of security official was held in New Delhi before announcement of panchayt polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
He informed since past 3 months centre has adopted tough mode against stone-pelters and separatists.
Following abrogation of article 370, separatist organizations have also limited their activities in the Kashmir Valley. Mainstream political parties like the National Conference and PDP are also not in a position to declare election boycott. However, National Conference has expressed interest to contest polls.
Moreover, a large faction of PDP is emerging as a third front by rebelling against the party may take part in elections.
Elections are to be held on 11,639 panches and 1,011 sarpanches vacant seats. A total of 11,639 panches and 1,011 panches have vacant seats in the panchayat by-election. Of these, the Kashmir division consists of 11,457 Panchs and 887 Sarpanch seats. Jammu division has only 182 Panchs and 124 Sarpanches vacant seats.
