Jammu:In yet another example proving best in class medical treatment, a 60-year-old cardiac patient was successfully treated at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital (SMVDNSH) by Dr. Nikhil Mahajan, Senior Cardiologist, thus improving the long-term survival of the patient.
The patient was referred to the hospital for cardiac procedure due to reduced heart functioning and history of Cardiac arrest. The reduced heart function required immediate implantation of CRT-D (cardiac resynchronization therapy with defibrillator) device. Under the leadership of Dr Nikhil Mahajan (Cardiologist) the patient successfully underwent complex cardiac procedure at SMVD Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, and a CRT-D device was implanted in the heart of the patient. As CRT-D enhance diseased hearts' effectiveness and increase blood flow, its implantation is one of the rarest forms of surgery for cardiac treatment.
Dr. Nikhil Mahajan said that "The CRT-D Device monitors the heart's rhythm, detects irregularities and corrects them with electrical impulses. CRT-D is designed to stop life-threatening ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation with overdrive pacing or electrical shocks. They improve heart failure symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath and exercise intolerance which significantly improves patients' quality of life."
Dr (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer at the Hospital said, "Earlier patients had to travel to metro cities for such complex treatments, however, now such critical treatment is available at our hospital which is equipped with world class medical facilities, qualified professional expert doctors and superior medical support staff".
