Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha and General Secretary AICC Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday sought intervention of Chief Ministers of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand to help the stranded students, labourers and traders from J&K in their states.

In a statement issued here, Azad ranged Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh,  CM Himachal Jai Ram Thakur and Trivender Singh CM Uttrakhand and discussed the issues faced by the stranded students, laborers and traders.

“These students could not return J&K on time and are presently stranded in their states and are facing various hardships on account of rent of their premises, fee and shortage of food stuffs and other related issues,” the spokesman said.

In wake of this, Azad has urged the concerned state governments to take care of the stranded people of J&K.

“He also requested them to direct the concerned deputy commissioners/ districts collectors to set up special helplines for these people in respective districts,” he said.

The handout reads that the CMs of these states assured Azad of all necessary help and care of the residents of J&K presently stranded at different locations.

“They have assured to do everything possible for providing them helpline facilities to sort out their hardships and facilitate their comfortable stay during the ongoing lockdown, due to coronavirus threat,” the handout reads.
