New Delhi:A Christmas event for homeless kids suffered an embarrassing moment after a local politician who was supposed to be dressed as Santa and distribute gifts took all for himself and left the venue.
As per organizers the event is held every year and the chief guest dressed as Santa distributes gifts to the kids. “Usually we have sports person or movie actors as guests. But this year we decided to invite someone from politics,” said a member of the organizing committee.
Sources say that although the politician later realized his mistake, he was reluctant to par with the gifts and it took a lot of effort for the organizers to get their entire sack of gifts back.
“We had to coax him to return them and were even ready to pay for it. It was after it was reported in the media that he agreed,” said an event organizer.
In is defence the politician offered an explanation and said, Pahli baar gaya aise karykram mein. Jaha jata hu gift milte hai. Pata nahi tha gifts dene bhi hote hai. Aadat se majboor hu na, hamesha jo acha laga woh le liya.”
